LET'S GET OUT OF THE TOURIST AREA where it is overpriced and crowded with people! This tour focuses on Ueno, which is not as crowded as Shibuya, Shinjuku and is less touristy. It is also famous with Japanese foodies for a good quality at reasonable prices. I'm going to take you to popular bars and restaurants for ONLY LOCALS (NO TOURISTS!!) where the staff speaks only Japanese. I will order signature dishes, and we will discuss the food and drink (and you can pepper me with questions). We will visit 4 restaurants/taverns in total, where you will sample sashimi, grilled fish and skewered meat, etc. You will also have the opportunity to try UNIQUE Japanese alcoholic drinks (5 or more different type of drinks), so I STRONGLY believe customers who can drink alcoholic beverages are more ENJOYABLE for the tour for sure!! I mean, kids might NOT be able to have fun of the tour because of the fact that the tour is designed for adults. Also, you'll be able to experience what Japanese taverns are like. After visiting these three taverns, we will end the tour at a great Ramen shop that is popular with locals. At the end of the tour, I will explain which train station you need to go, depending on where you go. Welcome to Tokyo, Japan! Experience KYUDO, the Japanese art of archery, the most beautiful, elegant martial art, with this program in Tokyo. In Japan, KYUDO is recognized to be a “Dynamic ZEN Meditation”. Believe it or not, you know when you hit the target the moment the arrow leaves your hand. Usually in Japan, when people take up KYUDO in earnest, it takes several months of practice before they are allowed to actually shoot at a target, but this program lets you go straight into action. Don a real traditional KYUDO uniform. Get matched with a bow and arrows for your body. Channel your inner spirits, but keeping your mind quiet, and try shooting an arrow at the middle of the target. You have dozens of times to try, but please understand that you may not hit the target on your first day, or you may get lucky once or twice. So, get advice on how to improve your movement. Although the instructor in this program is a DAN master (seeker), we have made many improvements over the thousands of people we have accepted for this experience and have created the program that can be enjoyed even by those who are new to Kyudo. * The meeting place for this program is different each time. You will explore Monzennakacho, small neighborhood in the eastern part of Tokyo. Manami was born and grew up here, learned about its history, and later earned a Ph.D. in cultural heritage protection. These days many tour groups are showing up. Ours is not a bike tour or bus tour that stops here for a short while just for the Buddhist ritual and group photos. Ours is an experience: you will talk with a real local who has expert insight into Japanese spirituality and understands the local backstory. She will explain what each performance at the ritual means as well as the meanings of all the unique symbols at the shrine. 1. Passing by old bars, Manami will introduce geographical features and history of this area. She will also uncover why two religions, Buddhism and Shinto, coexist in Japan, their differences, and what they mean to people. 2. Fukagawa Fudo-do - Buddhist temple: Manami will share basic etiquette for visiting religious places and for taking pictures and videos. You will witness a spectacular ritual involving fire and huge drums. There are some rules inside, but please relax and follow Manami’s instructions. 3. Tomioka Hachimangu - Shinto shrine: After trying the Shinto-style coin-throwing, you will see some "Sumo rocks” and grand festival architecture. If you would like to do omikuji or goshuin, Manami will be happy to help so please feel free to ask her.

You can learn how to make three types pretty sushi in my class. It is not traditional sushi craftsmen teaching, but it is much in originality. You‘ll enjoy the seasonal feeling from those sushi. Your making sushi is the only one in the world. Also I can prepare vegetarians option. Because these sushi can change the ingredients into vegetables . After make them , let's eat together. I will serve delicious miso soup . After the meal is over, I’ll put Kimono on you. you can choose what you like from several kimono. Then lets enjoy tea ceremony together. You will make your own omakase sushi with really good quality of the fish. (I highly recommend this experience to learn more about sushi before going to a fancy sushi restaurant) This tour consists of two part. First, we will walk around Tsukiji fish market where I will explain about fish and Japanese dishes. Second part is, you will experience sushi making, you can make your own sushi!
