Colours of Johannesburg - Graffiti & Street Art in the City
Come see and learn about the city's best Graffiti and Street Art and it's impact on the culture of the City! Starting in Braamfontein, we learn about the important cultural and technical differences between Street Art and Graffiti before heading out to look at the various murals and pieces done by local and international Street and Graffiti Artists in the area! Before leaving, we pop into the local Graffiti Store where graffiti artists buy their supplies and sell their branded merchandise! From here, we travel over the iconic Mandela Bridge to Newtown which is home to the City's underground culture and movement! Newtown is the City's spiritual home of Arts & Culture and hosts the annual "Back to the City" festival once a year - at this festival, the best local Graffiti Artists paint the walls in celebration of the City while musicians and fans celebrate their love for Hip-Hop! From Newtown, we head over to the Maboneng Precinct which is rich in Street Art that has been leading the evolution of this area since 2009 i.e. it's mixture of rooftops, restaurants, coffee shops, art and people make it a fun place to be and the best place to end our experience! From murals, to tags, to "graffiti masterpieces" and more...Johannesburg is home to a Graffiti & Street Art culture which is colourful, vibrant and expressive that makes Joburg a fun and exciting place to be!

Pretoria sunsets with an Architect
Well I should start off to say that this is a very special location for me. 1. It is the building that made me want to become an architect, 2. It is the place my parents got engaged, 3. It is my favorite spot in the city and probably even the world. We will be heading to the Union Buildings after stopping for the best Ice Cream in South Africa. We will head to the Union Buildings and after some brief talk about the history of the city and building we will settle in to watch the sunset over the city. The building is placed on the east-west axis so it gives the perfect lookout over the city and the perfect seat for the sunset. Make sure to pack your camera.
A Taste of Braamfontein through its Arts & Culture
Braamfontein - or just "Braam" to locals - is one of the most hip, cool, contemporary and culturally rich areas in the city! We meet at the lovely LOCO Mexican Restaurant where you can grab something tasty to eat or drink before we begin! From here, we head onto the streets of "Braam" where we trace its history while admiring the mixture of old and new buildings and the impact of the colourful Street Art on the development of the area. As we move along the streets, we chat about the day-to-day happenings of the area and how the migrant nature of the city's residents has played a role in shaping the way Braamfontein is today! Along the way we go into a Pan African book shop, visit a local streetwear design store, pop into a graffiti & vinyl shop all while taking in the energy and culture of this area! We finish off at the second oldest licensed bar in Johannesburg, the iconic Kitcheners Carvery Bar (or just "Kitcheners" to locals) - it's rich in history and a very popular night time spot for locals who enjoy the Joburg underground party scene! With a history closely linked to the development of Street Culture in the city from 2000 onwards, this is a really cool experience to do if you want to know more about the development of contemporary street culture in Johannesburg! NB! This experience ends at The Playground Market on Saturdays i.e. food, music, arts & craft etc.!
